The Making
Craft Philosophy
Chinese metalwork encompasses a broad range of techniques applied to bronze, copper, silver, gold and other metals. Artisans have used casting, hammering, engraving, inlay, gilding and enameling to produce vessels, ornaments and decorative objects. Cloisonné, for example, creates elaborate designs by forming metal-wire compartments and filling them with colored enamel.
